Custom Mego Figures

Back in the early seventies, a company named Mego started producing 8” figures with cloth costumes and removable accessories. Their most successful line was the Official World’s Greatest Super-Heroes, where DC Comics and Marvel characters were brought to life in 8” forms. Though similar in concept to the earlier Ideal Captain Action line, where the good Captain could be dressed up in a costume and become a number of different characters, Mego made an individual figure for each character, using a few standard body types, and making distinct heads, costumes and accessories for each. This made them perfect for customizing, and though Mego made a number of the major heroes and villains, there were many who were not given 8” life by the company, so it fell to those like me who longed for a Mego Green Lantern or Flash to add to the line ourselves. Over two decades and 450 customs later, I’m still at work making 8” versions of characters from comic books, TV shows, and movies. But enough verbiage, on to the fun stuff!
